My adopted daughter's older sister was recently placed with us. It looks like we will be adopting her as the SWs are recommendating termination of parental rights. She has a bond with her parents, kind of, but not a strong one. (Our theory is that her bond consists of "mom and dad are people who give me stuff," not "mom and dad are people who care for me, love me and are there for me." Anyway, she doesn't really ask about them or talk about them; however, I am trying to figure out a way to tell her "you aren't going to live with your mom and dad anymore, we are going to be your mom and dad now" with her understanding and not getting upset. Or, is it better to just not say anything? She already intermittently calls us mom and dad. Any help based on prior experiences would be appreciated. Again, if I posted this incorrectly or in the wrong place, please let me know so I can re-post appropriately! Thanks!
