We're a multilingual and multinational European family settled in the Netherlands who have waited a long time to be in the right place to start the adoption they've been dreaming about for years - we're hoping to adopt from Ethiopia but we're open to other sub-Saharan countries. We're planning to adopt a small sibling group, probably ages 2-4, special needs. Hopefully, we will have some sort of contact with first family members but there's a possibility our children might be foundlings - it's not likely with a sbiling group, but according to Dutch regulations we can adopt "social siblings" from one orphanage as well, e.g. two children with the same special need.
I am also part of a first family, my baby niece was placed first in foster care then in a closed adoption 20 years ago when I was 11. It has been a determining aspect in who I am, and one day I'll have the time to write more about it.
