I will never forget spending Thanksgiving with our son's birthmom and her family after only matching with them on Nov. 5th. We asked K if she had any names in mind and if she would be okay with us picking his first name and her picking his middle name. She ran back to her room and came out with a notebook! :0) We assumed it would be the same thing with our second child. With only 20 hours notice of being chosen and picking up our daughter. . . all we knew was her birthmom's first name. She originally wanted a closed adoption--so we included her name in our daughter's middle name. She cried when she heard it--telling us it was a good, happy and honored cry. And, yes, our adoption is now open with a little nudging on our part. I couldn't imagine having one extremely open adoption and one closed. We are so very blessed!

i am both an adopted child and the ap to my son. His name was there before he came to us via the foster care system, we kept his first name and changed his middle and of course last name to ours.
